David Boreanaz Pens Love Letter to the Flyers

David-Boreanaz-NHL
Fans of Bones star David Boreanaz know his love for the Philadelphia Flyers runs deep, which is something he has in common with his character Seeley Booth. But now, thanks to an essay Boreanaz penned forthe 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic game program, they’ll understand why. Read our exclusive excerpt below. And tune in to watch the Flyers face the New York Rangers in the regular-season outdoor game on Jan. 2 at 1 p.m. ET on NBC.
By David Boreanaz
All it took was one game at the old Spectrum, and I bled orange and black for life.
I was about seven years old when my family and I moved from Buffalo, New York to Philadelphia. Not too long after we arrived, my dad, as a surprise, got us tickets to see the Buffalo Sabres take on the Flyers at the Spectrum. It was exciting. He had gotten tickets in the nose-bleed section and when the Sabres scored, I cheered really loud. My dad just looked at me and I could tell that it was probably not the wisest thing to do. Even as a child I remember being taken aback by the, well, non-exuberant crowd around me as I celebrated alone in the upper decks of the old Flyer home. Instead of being scared, though, I was impressed by their passion and their intensity; back then the arenas were smaller, and there was a closeness that you don’t get as much now. Such was my introduction to the Flyers. Needless to say, by the time the hometown boys rallied to win that game, they had won me over. From there on out, I was a hardcore Flyers fan and I never looked back.

A Couple is Up to No Good in Brennan's Office!

Question: I read that Daisy is coming back in Episode 7 of Bones. What’s going on between her and Sweets in that episode? —Ed
Ausiello: Sounds like shenanigans. “They’re up to what they shouldn’t be in Brennan’s office,” teases exec producer Stephen Nathan.

'Bones' is Good for Women

There are a lot of reasons to love Bones, the show. This blog published 100 of them, in fact.  One of the reasons I love the show, though, and encourage my teenage daughter to watch it with me, is because Bones is a particularly interesting show for women. It subverts and even obliterates television tropes about female characters and how they behave.
The first and most obvious example is the Smurfette Principle.  No, it’s not the reason Brennan hates Secret Santa. In this context, the Smurfette Principle is the tendency among works of fiction with an ensemble cast to have just one female character.  It is of course a reference to Smurfette, the sole female in all of Smurfdom. (By the way, Smurfette was genetically engineered by Gargamel in hopes that a female would cause such dissension in the all-male Smurf society that they would fall apart and thus make them more susceptible to attack. There’s some subtext for you!)

Emily Deschanel and Others Ask McDonalds to Switch to Free Range Eggs

Ryan GoslingEmily Deschanel,Zooey DeschanelSteve-OAlicia SilverstoneKristin Bauer and Bryan Adams are among a group of ten big name celebrities who have signed an open letter asking McDonald’s to switch to buying free range eggs.
In November one of McDonald’s suppliers, Sparboe Farms, was caught on film by Mercy for Animals torturing their hens. According to MFA’s website, footage of Sparboe Farms “revealed hens crammed into filthy battery cages and dead hens left to rot alongside birds still laying eggs for human consumption. The investigator also documented workers burning off the beaks of chicks without painkillers, sadistically and maliciously torturing animals, and throwing live birds into plastic bags and leaving them to suffocate.”
While McDonald’s dropped that supplier and publicly came out against them, MFA and this group of celebs don’t think it’s enough.
Their open letter says, “While MCDonald’s has already established a 100 per cent cage-free purchasing policy in Europe, your US restaurants continue to support egg factory farms that confine hens for most of their lives in cages so small they can’t even spread their wings, nearly anything that comes naturally to them. Common sense tells us that animals with legs and wings should be given the basic freedom to move.
“Sadly, there is not a single federal law to protect hens from cruelty from the time they hatch to the time they are killed. While MCDonald’s brags about the ‘billions and billions served’, millions of hens exploited for your restaurants are being grossly underserved. In fact, these animals are being abused in ways that would land your egg suppliers in jail, if dogs or cats were the victims.”
To join the celebs and tell McDonald’s that you’re not okay with their treatment of egg laying hens, click here, and tell them how you feel.

Booth is One of the Top 5 Best Manly Men on Television

The mismatched socks. The mad marksmanship skills. The naked omelet-making. Bones‘ Seeley Booth: I know Bones drives a lot of you crazy. But in the post-Bush years, and in this particular moment after Christopher Hitchens’ death, there’s something really valuable about throwing down a marker and declaring that while it may be manly to be able to use force, it’s morally correct to abhor killing even if you’re good at it. And even though David Boreanaz makes it look effortless, the character of Booth is all about the fact that manhood — whether in the form of resisting addiction, caring for a wayward brother, respecting and loving a strong but difficult woman, and holding on to your faith — is hard work. But it’s worth doing. Source

Bones' Baby on Board
Booth and Bones did it. And we didn't get to see it. But the payoff is one big bombshell in the show's sixth season finale when Bones tells Booth that she's pregnant. "You're the father," she says, as he breaks into a huge smile. Producers insist a baby was always part of the plan, but we're pretty sure Emily Deschanel's pregnancy had something to do with it too.

BuddyTV: Bones is Awarded the 'Best Sudden Lurch Forward Into Love"

Tragedy may have brought up a hint of increased intimacy, but the real push -- after 6 seasons of inching along -- came when Brennan unexpectedly told Booth he was the father of her future baby. The beginning of season 7 thus thrust us into a Booth-Brennan couplehood, in all its glory.
